We will be there playing for you...come and support the venue and show your appreciation for Bob. Salty Suites is Scott Gats, Chelsea Williams and Chuck Hailes. Opening for us will be Singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers who has played her own brand of acoustic folk all over Los Angeles, including the Troubadour, the El Rey, the Roxy, Genghis Cohen and the Grand Ole Echo. Hometown Pasadena called her a "local treasure." Phoebe is an engaging performer for such a young singer, and her own songs are mature and insightful. Phoebe is currently studying music at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. VIVA CANTINA - BURBANK

SALTY SUITES LIVE IN THE BACK ROOM AT VIVA CANTINA! - 2 PM TILL 4:15 PM

900 Riverside Drive
Burbank California 91506
US 818 845-2425 [map]
Price: $10 WHEN YOU GET THERE!

The Salty Suites will be playing the VIVA CANTINA in our usual place, the lovely backroom stage area. This will be our fourth month in the back room after being the featured Band of the Month for the Southern California Bluegrass Association in September. We are trying to make this a monthly "Hang" for us and would love to get our meal crowd locked in and bringing friends. The food is delish', it is an intimate room with seating for many but we are away from the front of the restaurant bar area and it is a great listening room. Early on a Sunday so everyone is out and home in time to rest for the grind. The Suites will be there this weekend and tend to play for the full two hours non stop. If you have a favorite Salty Suites, Scott, Chuck or Chelsea tune, bring your requests for the band. Hope to see you there!

Salty Suites..... Scott Gates, Chuck Hailes and Chelsea Williams
They live in the world of live acoustic music, sharing a passion for roots and bluegrass, as well as traditional mountain music. Scott Gates is as close to a musical prodigy on the mandolin as you will ever meet and now plays guitar with the same fire and brilliance. Scott has been a mainstay at festivals for many years and holds a special place in his heart for people he sees year after year. Having performed all over the country and with artists as varied as John McEuen, Nathan McEuen, Steve Martin, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Loggins and a virtual Who's-Who of bluegrass players, Scott has started writing music of his own and will be bringing many of these tunes to you this year.  Scott appeared last year on the Ellen Show with Steve Martin, recorded with Kenny Loggins on his soon-to-be-released family album,  which was picked up by Disney,  appeared in an episode of the 2011 season of "Justified" on the FX Channel and toured the US with band mate Nathan McEuen. Partner in this new venture, Chuck Hailes, is one of the top bass players in the country, schooled in classical and jazz bass playing and techniques. Chuck writes his own music and has teamed with Scott to create many new musical gems. With his  background in bluegrass music, and degree in the Upright Bass, Chuck sings and plays in a way that is uniquely his own. Chelsea Williams has been writing and performing her own music since she was 13 years old. After a couple of years in two different working bands, Chelsea took the stage on her own by the age of 17, performing at clubs and coffee shops. While some of her early songs are still hits with her fans, she has continued to develop as a writer penning nearly 100 original songs to date. Chelsea currently makes her living by playing on the street for tips and selling a home-made demo, having sold thousands of CDs in recent months, one-by-one, simply on her own on the street. Her magnetic presence draws them in and her songs set the hook. Together they are simply amazing and electrifying, The Salty Suites ask you to lend them your ears.....

In 2005 Sandy wrote and compiled the book A Place Called the Bla-Bla Café, which is an insider’s look at Hollywood talent showcasing against the historically political backdrop of the 1970s.  The book has received great reviews and accolades from indie book publishing organizations and readers’ websites, including a 2007 Independent Publishers Book Award (IPPY). HIGH DESERT CTR for the ARTS - Victorville, CA

Scott Gates and Evan Marshall! Back by popular demand! - 7:30 pm

15615 Eighth Ave. (between D & C Streets)
Victorville California 92393
USA 760 243 7493 [map]
Price: $12 Adults, Seniors/Children $10

Back by popular demand, if you were here last time in August you will remember what this show was like. Tell your friends and please come back to see us.

Saturday Evening show will be reuniting Teacher and former Student. Mandolin Master Evan Marshall whose wizardry on the Mandolin is unbelievable to watch will be bringing his mastery of the instrument to the High Desert. Evan J. Marshall is the World’s Premier Solo Mandolin Virtuoso.  By himself, he sounds like several of the world’s finest mandolinists performing together. His stylistic signature is Classical, with strong influences from the Italian and American Folk traditions. Country guitar legend Chet Atkins called Evan “One of the few great musicians of our time.”

Inspired by Atkins and violinist Jascha Heifetz, Evan has created a uniquely recognizable approach to solo mandolin performance that combines bass lines, chords, rhapsodic runs and tremolo melodies.  He started Classical violin studies at age seven, and added the mandolin at age 14.

In addition to solo performances throughout the country, Evan has been a Featured Guest Artist in Pops concerts with a number of Symphony Orchestras, including Houston, Phoenix, Long Beach, Grand Rapids, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Jacksonville, and Pensacola.

Two of his solo mandolin recordings have been released by Rounder Records: Evan Marshall Is the Lone Arranger, which the Washington Post labeled "truly dazzling," the Raleigh-Durham Independent called "superhuman," and the Fresno Bee called "mind-boggling"; and Mandolin Magic, which the St. Paul Pioneer Press applauded for "a stunning mastery of interpretation." Evan also has recorded three solo CDs for his own label, Mandolin Conservatory.

In 1995 Evan made his first appearance on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Between 1993 and 2005 Evan was a Featured Soloist at Disneyland, performing his signature William Tell Overture: Finale for about two million visitors to the famous Golden Horseshoe Theater during the course of 10,000 shows. He has performed and taught at numerous regional and international conferences for mandolinists, who hold Evan in particularly high regard; Don Stiernberg has referred to Evan as “The Michael Jordan of the mandolin.”

His Student and now Mandolin Phenom Scott Gates is 19 years old and has taken the mandolin world by storm. Scott Gates is as close to a musical Prodigy on the mandolin as you will ever meet. Scott has been a mainstay at Bluegrass festivals for many years and holds a special place in his heart for these festivals and the people he sees year after year. This especially holds true for the kids he meets with that same fire to play music in their eyes that he had as a young boy.

Having performed all over the country and with artists as varied as John and Nathan McEuen, Steve Martin, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Loggins and a virtual who's who of bluegrass players, Scott has started writing music of his own.  Scott appeared last year on the Ellen Show with Steve Martin and he recorded with Kenny Loggins on his soon-to-be-released family album, which was picked up by Disney. Scott recently appeared on an episode of the FX Channel hit tv show Justified opposite Actor Timothy Olyphant . Having started on piano at 3 years of age and mandolin at the age of 8, Scott had studied under Evan Marshall for 6 years, David Grisman, Chris Thile and a host of others learning the Bluegrass, Celtic, Rock, Classical, Jazz and Blues styles from the masters themselves.

Scott formed his first band Pacific Ocean Bluegrass at the age of 13. He then performed with his own Scott Gates band for several years and then became a member of the touring "Nathan McEuen Band. Most recently Scott has formed the Salty Suites, a roots and bluegrass band and has been playing originals and standards to appreciative audiences all over the Southwest. A three time winner at the prestigious Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest as well as a two time National IBMA youth all star, Scott is also in great demand as a session player through out the country and all this by the ripe old age of 19.

Please note: "Russ & Julie's House Concerts" is simply the name we picked to describe our private parties. These parties are NOT a business nor are they a business related activity. They are strictly a hobby for us, and are simply gatherings of our friends and guests to enjoy live acoustic music, fellowship, food (a potluck dessert buffet) and fun. Our concert parties are officially free (or else it might be considered a business), although voluntary contributions (suggested donation of $15-$20 per person) are accepted at the party on behalf of the artists. 100% of all contributions go directly to the performers. By invitation only.
Many of our House Concerts fill up a weeks in advance, so please RSVP early.
